Richard Long has lived in and around Tonbridge for over 20 years. He is married to Tina and they have two boys who have recently left school in Tonbridge. Richard and Tina are partners in their solicitors practice serving the Tonbridge area.
Richard was the County Councillor for Malling Rural East (the villages east of Tonbridge) from 2005 to 2013. He was successfully re-elected and now represents Tonbridge. Having represented the rural area around Tonbridge Richard is familiar with many local and wider issues and with the workings of the County Council, where he is Chairman of Governance and Audit.
He has used his community fund to help many local causes, including village halls, the Scouts, youth groups and services for families and older people in the town. One of his priorities is enhancing road safety outside schools including the provision, where appropriate, of additional pedestrian crossings. He is a serving Officer in the Army Reserve. He supports the regeneration of the High Street and retail areas of Tonbridge, in partnership with the Borough Council, but does not favour pedestrianisation of the High Street.
